The Los Angeles Times reported that district officials allege that Santiago Charter Middle School authorities did not protect their students from the woman.
Police arrested Sarah Bench-Salorio, 28, on Jan. 4 for suspicion of having had sex with two boys, both of whom are 13 years old.
Bench-Salorio is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Orange County Superior Court. She could be sentenced to 46 years in prison if convicted of all the charges.
District Superintendent Robert French wrote to Santiago Charter Middle School directors, maintaining that Santiago school officials had been notified about Bench-Salorio prior to her arrest, the paper reported.
Santiago's principal, Mary Henry, declined to comment about French's claim that her student's safety had been put at risk.
French said in the letter that the district's concerns "were raised to the [school] administration prior to the teacher's arrest and during her tenure as a teacher," reported The Times. He did not elaborate on the nature of those concerns.
According to French, district officials "believe that continuation of the program under the charter school administration poses an imminent threat to the health and safety of its students."
The school's board of directors have hired a lawyer on retainer to defend itself against an attempt by the district to take over the school's administration.
